Have you all been told by someone else that’s watching your little one, be it a teacher, babysitter, grandma, that they were so well behaved! And you sit there thinking, who were they taking care of?!?
Well I’m here to tell you that not only is that totally normal and developmentally appropriate, it’s also the sign of a healthy relationship.
Think about it. With you, your little one knows they are safe no matter what kind of shenanigans they pull. They know they can tell, cry, have a tantrum, whatever, and they’ll still be safe.
With another caregiver, especially one they maybe aren't around that often? Your little one is thinking, who knows how they may react! I better be on my best behavior, that way I keep myself safe.
Is it incredibly frustrating sometimes? Mmhmm. Is it kinda special that you are your child’s safe space? Yes, it’s amazing.
So instead of being frustrated, tell yourself the following-How lucky am I that my little one knows how safe and loved and supported they are?!?
And if you’re thinking, hmmm, my little never acts up with me, or anyone for that matter, maybe take a quick second to reflect. Is it because they’re just chill and low key? Or are they feeling like that have to be perfect all the time, or else they’ll get in trouble?
And how can you make it better?
